Keeping Pick-&-Joy plants healthy

Clean Farming & IPM

Within the Pick-&-Joy assortment, we work with carefully selected varieties that contribute to a strong and healthy start of the crop in the greenhouse.

Our cultivation is based on Clean Farming and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Prevention is central to this approach: we aim to prevent problems as much as possible rather than controlling them afterwards. Insect netting is used to keep harmful insects out of the greenhouse as much as possible, and continuous crop monitoring allows us to intervene quickly with natural crop protection when necessary.

Inside the greenhouse, an ecosystem is developing in which different natural processes work together. For pest control, we use biological control agents: beneficial insects that help keep pest populations under control. Banker plants are specific plants that provide these insects with food and a place to establish themselves, so they remain present throughout the entire cultivation cycle. For pollination, we use bumblebees.

Only when preventive and biological measures are insufficient we will use green crop protection products. These are selective products which have a low impact on beneficial organisms. Even then, the principle applies: only when necessary and as limited as possible.

Pick-&-Joy is not SKAL-certified organic. However, we work according to an integrated cultivation strategy in which variety selection, prevention, biological control, and careful use of green crop protection products are central.
